Hi! My name is Michael Cheney and this is my amazing family. We always look forward to a bright future ahead of us.
Call me "Cheney" (most of mostly everyone does, anyway). I grew up in Hawai'i. My father worked hard and my mother devoted all her time to my siblings and I (all 8 of us). As my siblings gradually moved out of the family house, and with my parents becoming busier with emtpy-nest things, home life got too quiet for me.
Growing up, I had your typical friends; band geeks, jocks, gamers, and chess nerds. I have had good friends, questionable friends, crazy friends, not-really-your-friend friends and friends-no-matter-what friends. All in all, life has been sometimes crazy, sometimes mundane, but there were always lessons to learn (and I hadn't even gotten married yet!).
A few years later, I got married to my beautiful wife, Amber. After graduating from Brigham Young University – Hawaii, Amber and I made the hard decision to move from a tropical paradise to a desert with no friends or family (Utah, of course).
Had we stayed in Hawaii, we would have immensely struggled financially due to the high cost of living. If we moved to Taiwan, where Amber is from, I would not have been able to get a job because I don’t speak Mandarin. We chose Utah for one main reason: financial freedom.
Financial freedom cannot buy happiness, but it can provide you and your family more time together. I’ve seen the same cycle repeat: get a job, live paycheck to paycheck, delay your dreams until you retire, become discontent, then repeat the cycle. This will not be me.
Dreams, let's get started!
